About the image...
From the 2007 exhibition - Above & Beyond the Australian Landscape (background information).
Face pressed against the window of the aircraft in which I am traveling I can see pretty much directly below … but try to take a photo of the landscape beneath and invariably the reflection of a curved window frame will impose itself into the image.
Image #0892 began as such a photograph. The reflection was real, the landscape was real, yet they were not one and the same. The photograph had them melded into a new reality that does not exist yet makes perfect sense to me knowing the history. Mirages on the road don’t ‘exist’ either, but I see them and accept them as real. Perhaps this whole thing we call reality is a like a mirage.
The reflection that looks so real and integrated into the landscape in the photograph prompted me to create my own image reflecting a time where I found myself delving further into the layers of beliefs and perceptions that make up my own reality and the spin-off worlds in which I am framed.
And it all began with a photograph … (again)
